Humble Review: T&K Seafood @ Chinatown, Bangkok

Disappointment.
Here's a disclaimer before I further develop this blog entry, this is solely regarding to the dining experience of my family in our recent visit.

Let me begin to share with you our way to reach Chinatown by public transport. The public transport in Bangkok city is various including motorcyclist ferry service, tuk tuk (three-wheeled taxi that commonly seen in Bangkok), buses, boat shuttle service and cab.

As usual, we headed to Chinatown (Yaowarat) by public transport. You can either take bus no. 73 or 73ก at Pratunam bus stop, opposite Indra Square.

The red pointer is exactly where we wait for bus for about 30 minutes as it was around 4pm, heavy traffic flow occur along the road.

You are welcomed to click here to read my previous visit to Chinatown as well.

This is the interior of the bus. Clean and cool ( air conditioning system working pretty efficient) though it's rather an old bus.

A ticketing assistant approached us shortly after we got our own seats. 13 Baht each passenger of a single journey from Pratunam to Yaowarat.
It was about 4.48pm and apparently it's one of the peak hours where heavy traffic flow occur on the road. Thanks God that the flow is smooth though it's slow as compared to my previous visit in the morning.

Despite this is my second visit to Chinatown, I have no clue which station I should get down. No worries, the ticketing assistant is so much helpful that she signaled us when it's about to reach Yaowarat, of course, we did request her to inform us earlier on.

A closer view of the interior.

Snapshot of bustling street in Chinatown. We reached Yaowarat about 30 minutes later.

Kindly take extra precautions on your belongings to avoid pickpocketing or any injuries whenever you are there. As you could see the vehicles pass by right beside the hawkers or even just the people flow. Super bustling and crowded!

This is it, T & K Seafood. Spot this green house (green colour painted building and also green colour t shirt) surrounded with lots of foreign visitors as early as nearly 5.30pm. The restaurant operates at 6pm.  The two ropes here are the delivery way for the upstairs to get order as well as ingredients.
I watched by myself that the staff hanged a pack of chicken meat and it was delivered up to second floor by manual pull-up.

This cooking section that set up at outside, right in front of the main door of T&K Seafood would be spotted as well. Alright, forget about hygiene, I would say.

Have no clue where to spot the restaurant? Maybe the following photos of nearby shop lots (landmarks) might help you just in case you are unable to google search for the location.

This is taken from our table at the al fresco area of T&K Seafood Restaurant. As you see, T&K provides dining area at the compound of shop lots which are not operating starts from evening time.

Another near landmark would be KrungThai Bank Chinatown outlet. It is just opposite at the right hand side of the junction of T&K.

Below are the menu I managed to take photo for your reference.

The actual serving is like that

Seafood tom yum soup (150 baht) and fish maw with crab meat soup (200 baht)
Tomyum soup is densed with the milk. It would be perfectly addictive for people who prefer on more spicy taste of Tomyum instead of sourish. The ingredients inside including fish slices, squids, prawns and button mushrooms.

For both soup, first taste, damn, it's not serving hot, just a bit of warm with the help of the charcoal burning at the bottom. Apparently, it's not an ideal serving. The bean sprout still taste raw even though we have throw it into the fish maw soup, it must be due to the temperature of the soup.

Steamed White Snapper in Soya Bean Sauce (300 Baht)
This is little bit better with the soya bean sauce is 'boiling' with the assistance of the candle burning at the bottom. According to my parents who have more dining experience, they said the fish is already steamed earlier on, like few hours ago and they only take it out and place it with the soya bean sauce to be served up. So, it's kind of 'reheat' servings up on the table. *Face palm*

To make it a more balanced meal, we ordered stir fried water mimosa (80 Baht). What the heck, the hardest stem of vege I've taste ever in my life.

The rice comes in a pot with only 40 Baht charged whereas 10 baht for each individual plate. I would advise to go for pot size if you have large dining pax and/or able to take in big amount of rice. Cashed out a total of 840 Baht with four dishes and a big bottle of Coke with a small bucket of ice cubes for five pax.
It's not hard to spot T&K with long queue along the street if you happen to be in Chinatown starts from 6.30pm at the local time. You could see the staff in green t-shirt busily taking order from customers who are queuing up and waiting for table at the same time.

Here's a couple of evening view of China Town

Grand China Hotel is also another landmark in China Town. It was where we got down from bus in our first visit.

It may be a wonderful dining experience for people out there with the servings of big seafood like crab and prawn but not 煮炒 like what we had.  I wonder if the cook can do well in preparing those seafood then why not these rather simple dishes? I guess it's just our bad luck.

You could save it for your convenience.

Joyous shopping at Zalora!

Hi everyone, I'm back on track after a hiatus of nearly six months. So I did my fifth semester for the past months and frankly, the heavy workloads really disciplines myself to stay on studies for a short duration. Imagine you have 1 or 2 quizzes/tests every week in average which assignments are not included yet. Okay, put aside that because I'm currently enjoying semester break which means blogging mood ON!

This post is not a sponsored one, it's just me mainly to share my online shopping experience at Zalora. To be honest, it is my first time shopping online, ever.

Shopping online has been one of the common ways of purchasing goods for people where transaction could be done within just some clicks. Yet, the risk of shopping online including fake product review and counterfeit goods is what I mind the most. Students like me are much wiser and cautious when it comes to money stuff. It is definitely a bless that the industry of online shopping (also knows as e-shopping) develops flourish in Malaysia. More competitors hence more great deals for consumers.

I've been looking for a pair of Keds sneakers since two or three years ago, no joke, I couldn't get myself one even though I tried to look at the major retail stores in Penang. I've noticed that there are super less new-arrival items up on shelves over years with the price remains on the existing pairs of sneakers. Still, none of them wins my heart.

This year, I'm very keen to get myself a pair of sneakers so I looked for it online. Having the minimal hope to scroll through the patterns at few websites, then I've found few pairs that are pretty decent. So after filtering, I decide to pick this

Keds Taylor Swift Champion Glitter Lace Sneaker, MYR 219.

The first time minds me a lot is the size of the shoes. I'd like to avoid the risk of selecting the inappropriate shoes size even though Zalora provides free return within 30 days of purchasing. I don' really trust the size chart provided anyhow hence this is a smart way of picking the right shoes size: Refer to your sport shoes where you could find the number of size labelled at the shoes box. You could select any as you prefer either UK or US size.

I came across to get a promo code which offers me 20% off storewide at Zalora, I applied this promo code instead of RM 25 off upon checkout for Zalora newsletter subscribers. Besides, the delivery fee is on Zalora for any items priced RM 75 and above, another bonus!

There are six payment methods available including Cash On Delivery, Credit/Debit Card, Online Banking, Paypal, Bank Transfer and the latest one, Installments up to 12 months which only applicable for checkout of RM 200 and above ( Eligible for Maybankard holders). Nonetheless, you could simply redeem the Zalora gift card if you happen to receive or purchase.

I made my online transaction on January 24, 2016 (Sunday) which is also Thaipusam celebration day. A replacement holiday placed on the next day is considered so I assume to get my sneakers by Thursday. At Zalora, for most of the items, the delivery takes 1 to 3 business days for West M'sia whereas extra 1 day for East Malaysia and Brunei.

I suppose that electronic generating system doesn't stop working even on weekends. I get an email notification about my order confirmation on the same day!

Another email received the next day! I was informed that my sneakers had left the warehouse and it was on the way to reach me soon. The courier service company for mine is Gdex. Spot the TRACK ORDER button? I could just click in to track it anytime.

Here's the complete tracking history of my order. My sneakers reached on my hand on Thursday, 12pm sharp. Yeah, within 3 business days as promised.

There goes the unboxing session.

Keds Taylor Swift Champion Glitter Lace Snekaer (Navy)

You are required to reuse the bag if you would like to do returns. just remove the transparent strip at the top and reseal it. Not to mention, fill up the forms as attached along as shown below:

Bear in mind that returns are free at POSLAJU branches only. Just drop the parcel off to the branches near you. Friendly reminder, this is only applicable for people who would like to return the purchased item.

A pair of black coloured flat nylon shoelaces is given. Also, a short note about the sneakers is printed on a little card.

A little bonus on this pair of Keds sneakers is the locket with the wording of 'Taylor Swift'. I don't think I will put it along during my wear, maybe I'll just keep it as a precious little thing.

In overall, I'm very satisfied with the service I'd ever got in the whole process of purchasing this pair of sneakers at Zalora. The customer service team has been doing pretty well where they concern on my satisfactory on the goods purchase and invite for writing preview if possible. No worries, I'll make it after my first wear in my Bangkok trip tomorrow!

I'd tried wearing it at home, yes, comfortable and soft-stepping on. Thanks God that I've finally found a right pair of sneakers for myself, so I hope the quality wouldn't be out of my expectations, too. Yes, another tick put on my wishlist. Lastly, shout out to people who are looking for more choices of goods and greater deals, Zalora would be an alternative  for you!

Jom Ke Kuantan: Non-stop eating!

Semester break is equivalent to a great hiatus for students. My friends and I had actually planned this while ago and we decided to officially end our fourth semester with a weekend getaway!

The main reason we selected Kuantan as our destination is because one of us is from there and to be honest, it's kind of rare for anyone to step into Kuantan for a short escape. So why not we appreciate and grab this chance to explore?

Kuantan is one of the cities in Malaysia. It's the state capital of Pahang, Kuantan near the mouth of Kuantan River and faces South China Sea.

Straight to the point, let me share with you some awesome food you ought to try it in Kuantan.

1. Nasi Lemak

It is definitely not strange to get yourself Nasi Lemak in the morning. This stall of Nasi Lemak is owned by a Chinese lady, it means Chinese style Nasi Lemak. There are a wide variety of side dished to add on such as curry chicken, salted-fish curry (咸鱼咖喱) and fish curry with ikan kembung.
Personally, I don't really eat salted-fish curry but this one is an exception. I fell in love at first taste LOL perhaps it just simply favoured to my taste buds.
RM 19 for 3 pax for the servings as above.
The stall is closing as early as 10 due to good respond from people there.

If you are looking for a normal servings, here it is.
RM 2.50 per serving inclusive of rice, peanuts, sliced cucumbers, choices of poached or hard-boiled egg and sambal cili.
The rice here is not prepared with coconut milk (santan)

You can find it at Kedai Kopi Ah Soon as it is one of the hawker stalls inside.

The landmark would be Hospital KPJ Kuantan.
Kedai Kopi Ah Soon is located right beside of it.
There are other foods ready to kick start your day as well, for example, Curry Mee, Pan Mee (板面/面粉糕) and a variety of kuih-muih (糕点)

It opens its door for breakfast and brunch hour only.

TriviaName: Nasi Lemak @ Kedai Kopi Ah Soon
Rating: 3.5/5
Business hour: Breakfast and early brunch time
Nearest landmark: KPJ Kuantan

2.Beijing Noodle (北京面)
The shop owner is a Chinese from China and he accommodates with local flavour in serving Beijing Noodle. The texture of the noodle tastes similarly like the Pan Mee in Penang. The highlight would be 麻辣汤, simply superb as it will make your tongue numb gradually (at the end you finished eating) with its fair spiciness.
There are few choices to choose from, all of them are served generously, just right enough for a big eater like us.

(Spicy noodle soup)
RM 5.50

(Seaweed soup noodle)
RM 5.50

(Clear soup noodle with dumplings)
RM 5.00

(Dried noodle with soup)
RM 5.50
You are welcomed choose either 麻辣汤 (Spicy soup) or 清汤 (Clear soup)

A closer view of Beijing noodle, it looks similarly as Pan Mee we can get in Penang, ain't it?

It's definitely the highlight of Dumpling soup noodle!
The meat inside is chewy and simply compatible with 汤包, really ho chiak, damn worth.

Spot the tauke at the counter!

I'm not sure about its business hour but I guess it would be around brunch time till late afternoon because we dined in at 2p.m.

Beijing Mee Restaurant is located opposite of Ambank branch at Jalan Haji Abdul Aziz.

3.Pan Mee (板面/面粉糕)
Located same row of shop lots as Bejing Mee Restaurant, we get ourselves the signature Pan Mee at
Y&L (妙计面粉糕)

Look at the clear surface of the Pan Mee! How could you resist towards it...
RM 5.00 (Small)

Standard price at RM 5 for small and RM 6 for large serving

Friendly reminder, Y&L serves mainly during breakfast hour and the latest closing time is around 1 or 2pm, make sure you plan yout schedule well to avoid disappointment!
It's at the same row of shop lot as Beijing Mee Restaurant, also opposite of AmBank branch at Jalan Haji Abdul Aziz.

Nearest landmark: Ambank branch at Jalan Haji Abdul Aziz

4. Curry Noodle

Hoi Yin (海燕) Curry Noodle is a must to try out whenever you are in Kuantan. Unfortunately, Hoi Yin didn't open business throughout our 3D2N getaway. So, we are introduced to this curry noodle at Singrena kopitiam. PS: Singrena kopitiam and Satay Zul share the same row of shop lot!

You have to pick some add-ons and pass it to the auntie. Then, tell her your choice of noodle either bihun or Lembing Noodle (林明面) or both

OS: Huh? What kind of noodle is that?
No worries, you would be know it soon on my following post

RM 5.80 inclusive of  noodle and 3 add-ons.
PS: Considered pricey due to its portion served.

The major difference would be the curry soup.
In Northern region of Malaysia, or precisely, Penang, the soup served is rather diluted with the mixture of herbs and chilli paste associated with coconut milk.
The texture here is rich and more to the curry broth from typical curry chicken. To my personal favour, I could just get it to mix with rice for a meal.

Name: Curry Noodle @ Kedai Kopi Singrena
Rating: 3/5
Business hour: Breakfast and lunch hour
Nearest landmark: Terminal Satay Zul

5.Cendol & Temosa

I regard it as the best remedy in these hot days. The famous and most favourited by the locals would be Ibrahim Cendol at Jalan Air Putih.

The business hour for Bulan Ramadan (Fasting Month) is 3pm to 6pm daily.
Usual business hour is from 12noon till evening.

Cendol with red beans RM 2.00
PS: I prefer this to Penang Famous Teo Chew Cendol, the cendol here serve more generously and the red bean is right in size to chew. One downside is the lack of the amount of shaved ice. I demand for more! hehe

If you happen to have yourself cendol here, then Temosa is another add-on you shouldn't be missed.
It looks exactly like curry puff we can have in any mamak stall but it differs somehow that the ingredients are the minced fish where it looks slightly like anchovy (ikan bilis)
RM 0.50 per piece, not a bad option to try.

Ibrahim Cendol, Jalan Air Putih, 25300, Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia.

Trivia
Name: Cendul @ Ibrahim Cendul
Rating: 4/5
Business hour: 12 noon onwards
Nearest landmark: Rozel Kuantan

6. Terminal Satay Zul

Make sure you make it a point to try this out if you happen to swing by to Kuantan! I'm not regret to leave Kuantan with a delight taste of satay at Terminal Satay Zul. Satay Zul opens its door to customers at 6pm onwards daily.

The satay here is served with full meat, unlike what we usually get a skewer consists of a mix of meat and fats.

The seasoned meat is tender and flavourful, perfectly goes well with the peanut sauce!
RM 0.80 per skewer for chicken meat

The air ventilation is medium although the grilling is done outdoor.

There are two floors of seating to accommodate the large volume flow of customers from time to time.  Other signature including Nasi Impit, Nasi Dagang, Nasi Lemak and Bakso.

Trivia
Name: Satay@Terminal Satay Zul
Rating: 4.5/5
Business hour: 6pm onwards daily
*Located along the main road to Teluk Cempedak

Second post coming up next! Stay tuned.
