Hotel Review: 2D1N in G Suite, G Hotel Gurney, Penang

Surprising Christmas gift I have ever had! If you have been sticking with me on IG (@mablemaeve), I'd attended G Hotel Media Appreciation Evening back in July and won the prize for 2 days 1 night at G Suite, G Hotel Gurney!!

The event brought up all attendee (media members) to participate into games, rewards including buffet vouchers and hotel room stay. So I managed to beat the rest in a game and got the first prize which is a stay of 2 days 1 Night at G Hotel Gurney, G Suite!

The best getaway for me totally carefree! No work stress, no make up, no rules to obey...all simply follow our heart to go. How long have you missed such relaxation?

10 (& even more!) Things You Must Order @ Gravity Rooftop Bar, G Kelawai

Meet-ups, corporate event, mini function like birthday celebration, wedding proposal have become part of the routine in the urban city culture, and most of them usually settled in the cafes. To date in Penang, people have gradually shift the destination to hidden bars to indulge into 'the night is still young' late night activities. However, I don't find myself enjoy surrounded in a poor air ventilation (cigarette smoke), alcohol beverages or even poor live band.

I'd been to a rooftop dining bar, Gravity at G Kelawai last week and found that it's apparently a new spot for gatherings in Penang. The atmosphere is great to my own liking, the menu is another highlight you should put an attention as well. In fact, I had an enjoyable evening up on the 24th floor.

Trivia
Venue: Gravity Rooftop Bar @ G Kelawai, 24th floor
Business Hour: 5pm - 1am daily

Gravity @ G Kelawai, Penang

Now everyone can save over thousand ringgit of travel cost for a rooftop dining experience in Bangkok. Here's my recommendations of ten things (and even more, too bad not to recommend good things) you ought to order whenever you're at Gravity.

7 Highlights: Japanese Buffet Dinner 🍴 SPOON, G Hotel Kelawai

With the wide acceptance of foreign cuisine by the community, it has becoming one of the common choices to select for a meal. For instance, Korean cuisine, especially, is flooded with buffet style BBQ promotion from time to time. Just my two-cents, Japanese cuisine buffet is mostly served in hotel with a relatively lower publicity and not to mention, the not-so strategic dining location to the locals especially.

Here to present 7 highlights that I found in Japanese themed buffet that is simply convincing toward your dine-in moment spent at Spoon Cafe (G Hotel Kelawai, Level 2).

1. Elimination of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) and Alcohol
In the practice of healthy diet concept, there is no any flavour enhancers (commonly known as MSG) added in the food preparation. It's purely the art work of Executive Sous Chef, Ong Ban Khoon and the team to bring out the real taste of food that is compatible to the authentic Japanese cuisine. Another highlight goes to the absence of alcohol used in making out a Muslim-friendly dining hall. This is definitely a great space for diners including the Muslims to enjoy Japanese food with a peace of mind.

Allow Sake No To-nyu Jiru (Creamy salmon miso soup) as the entree before the main dish.

Get some finger food, kids must be like it very much.

What about the traditional Japanese appetizer?
Don't forget to grab the smooth and creamy Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) as well.

2. Assorted Sushi
As sushi is a staple of Japanese cuisine, it is a must to pick up at least one or two for a refreshing savore too. They are freshly prepared and replenished from time to time to ensure your continuous satisfaction in terms of great taste and freshness.

Sushi fans, get it all you can!

Nicely presented tako (octopus).

Hira-zukuri cuts (rectangular slice) of salmon sashimi.

3. Seafood Galore
Here's some abundant source of minerals to keep you in good reproductive health. Treasure of the sea are freshly lay for your pick and also cold cuts, too.

Eat them fresh.

You could also opt for salad for the sake of balanced diet.

4. Marvellous Cheese Corner
If you were a Japanese food mania, you must've known that Japanese are really brilliant in innovate and infuse cheese (beside matcha) into food and beverage (despite it's diary production by the westerns). At Spoon Cafe, you have the opportunity of unlimited tasting more than simply biting into it.

Gouda Cheese.

Edam Cheese.

Brie Cheese.

Emmental Cheese.
(My top pick!)

5. Mouth-watering Dessert
This is normally served at the end as a completion of your meal yet ironically, it's the climax to the sweet-tooths and ladies, especially. G Hotel's in-house dessert has always been a great anticipation over its variety and most importantly, the wonderful taste to fly you high! (Stop screaming, girls! XD)

Creative art piece including selected pastries and confectioneries.

Chocolate fountain with assorted fruits and tidbits.

Glutinous ball with sesame fillings in thick red bean soup (Zenzai soup).

Spot your favourite pick?
Some features include purin, green tea red bean mousse, Hokkaido cup cake and Japanese cheese cake.

6. Strategic location between shopping malls and comfortable dining space
It's no longer a big issue to you as Spoon Cafe at G Hotel Kelawai is strategically situated between Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon Mall. Just a minute or two of walking distance, you've already stepped into either one of the one-stops to do grocery shopping after that or get into limited sales or even a lovely movie date.

Being a old-school people, I was pleasant to step into the dining space floored with Peranakan-inspired cement tile.

Extensive simple interior including wooden dining tables and chairs, not to forget, aesthetic circus pendant lights leads to the sophisticated ambience.

Moreover, the overlooking of Kelawai road that is always lively with relentless traffic flow adds up some captivating scene to stimulate your appetite too. Simply perfect for a casual dinner with your loved ones or even a corporate engagement.

7. G Signature drinks
Despite complimentary free flow of sky juice, you may opt something special to spark thru your beverage. Introducing some in-house signature drinks to skyrocket your food enjoyment at Spoon Cafe.

From left to right of three cocktails:
Pomegranate Mojito
Lychee Smash
Cili Lada
(Each RM 38)

I chose Watermelon Pudina (RM 21) which is under mocktails category.
Every refreshing sip is smoothly infused by the blended fresh mint leaves.

And of course, there're more for you discover besides these highlights as mentioned. Others include Action Station where the chef skillfully showcase you via all the Teriyaki food. Ice cream and fruits are another great choices to bottom up your satisfaction.

G Hotel 2017: Perfect Bed & Perfect Pint Challenge

In order to unveil a fresh new look to guests, G Hotel Gurney has recently completed a great makeover worth RM 35 million. This 5-star hotel in town is no longer strange to almost everyone in Penang as shoppers may always pass through the hotel lobby on their way to and fro between Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon Mall.

In conjunction with the completion of makeover project, the Marcom team from G Hotel conducted a little bit extraordinary this time in order to outstand from common happenings like food review. I was very honoured to be one of the six bloggers to be invited for 'Perfect Bed and Perfect Pint Challenge'.
Me with my freshly-pumping beer.

Personally, it was an awesome afternoon to spend and memorable one, all thanks to G Hotel for having us. It is, indeed, the time to reveal to you guys more about G Hotel, particularly, the suite room! And you know, it's somehow a cliche to understand more thorough on G Hotel through food review. G Suite, with only 2 units in G Hotel, is the highest room category for guest's ultimate luxury pampering. Make sure you scroll down to see more photos of the suite.

The event started with a meet up with all bloggers and the Marcom team under the lead of MarCom director, Christina Tan at the lobby and headed to meet the housekeeping team.

Mr Herry, one of the housekeepers did a demonstration of making the perfect bed in terms of neatness ,clealiness as well as efficiency. I was SO LUCKY to be the first challenger for both game.
but deep down anxious to the max.
Mr Shahril Seman, housekeeping manager of G Hotel Gurney and yours truly.
The allocation time for this challenge is 10 minutes with additional 5 minutes for those who need it.
No joke, I couldn't even lift the bed at all!
The expert housekeeper, Herry
VS
The clumsy housekeeper, yours truly.

The result...
TA-DAAA!
hey, no la, it's not my work
BUT
as followed,
Hahaha! I should really consider to go for a training of making bed, seriously!
Messy bed don't care! Victory first!

Despite my messy finished work with an exhausting body, I would once again salute to all the housekeepers over the world as their job inclusive of folding bedsheet, putting up the duvet cover and duvet insert, finished up with 4 pillow cases as well. Thank you guys for the great effort to have us the comfortable staying!

The bloggers waiting at the posh and spacious living room for their turn. Thanks to MarCom team for killing the time with us.
''Rasa Sayang" is so refreshing to sip thatsimply perfect for me who was exhausted right after completed the challenge. Best seller in the G Lounge.
A group photo include all bloggers, MarCom team and also the representatives from house keeping department. Thank you guys especially the house keeping team!

Next, we moved to Tree Bar for the second which is also the last session of the event.

It is the largest al-fresco bar in Penang fits up to 198 happy hour goers!
Tree Bar is indeed a great place to hangout in an afternoon. Be it shine or rain, there is a shaded section. Else, you could always sit back and unwind as well as indulged in beer and delicious food.in an open-air concept.

The competition started straight after Mr Danson Khaw, assistant outlet manager demonstrated his skillful pumping for a perfect pint. It is all about the speed and accuracy of pumping in order to reach the perfect foam level.

Considered not bad for a first timer, ain't it?

Here's the promotion list I've got for you all.
Jom la, Happy Hour la whey, BUY 1 FREE 1 leh!

For non-alcoholic mania, Cider Bite is absolutely your choice of beverage to go over there. It is the combo of beer and cider with a dash of Ribena, certainly the ladies' favourite, I suppose.
Cider Bite (RM 36/pint)

 Buffalo Wings - RM 29
Deep fried chicken wings with fresh celery, carrots and cheese sauce.
Mozzarella Cheese Sticks - RM 22
Deep fried mozzarella sticks with mexican garlic salsa and extra virgin olive oil.
Currywust Sausage - RM 26
German chicken sausage braised in curry leaf, ketchup and spices.
Seafood Pizza - RM 36
Calamari, prawns, mussels, tuna and homemade tomato sauce with cheese and basil leaf.
PS: Most of us prefer this to Meat Lover's Pizza.

Arancini - RM 22
Cheese and mushroom arancini with smoked tomato sauce and fresh basil.

Spot that big tree behind?
Here's the fun fact, it is not an ordinary tree that you think of but is absolutely older than you!
'Albizia Saman' is 80 over years old. The locals call it as 'five o'clock' tree ('Pukul Lima' in Malay) as its leaves fold during the rainy weather and in the evening. Be sure you watch it live and capture it whenever you have the chance!

Once again, a group photo with all!

Although I did not manage to accomplish both challenges game, it was really a cool and brand new experience to me! I'm sincerely grateful to be one of the participants and got to mingle with the bloggers as well as the MarCom team in an afternoon.

Roost for Reunion at G Hotel

Feast. Revel. Bustle. These are how people involve themselves in every festive celebration including the upcoming Chinese New Year. If you are one of those who is still in the midst of selecting the best servings for family or even relatives, fret not, here's a good one for your consideration. In conjunction with the Year of Rooster or what Chinese believe it to be a Golden Chicken Year, G Hotel, as annual, wouldn't miss to provide a great platform for people to reunite in tables, simply means preparing tantalizing meal in an evening.

As shown above, there are three packages namely Happiness (RM 1388 nett), Prosperity (RM 1488 nett) and Longevity (RM 1588 nett). Each of them is inclusive of 8 dishes with free flow of selected Chinese Tea. All served Halal except for additional order on alcoholic drinks.

We were in the bliss to have both red and white wine as a companion in our dinner.

Being privileged for a review, I would like to focus on Longevity Package. It is simply an ideal one for seafood lover as the treasures of the sea are served in almost every dish. The first one, without a doubt, is led by the serving of Yee Sang as a symbolic of all things auspicious.

New Year Fresh Salmon Yee Sang
*Personal Favourite

This flavoursome Yee Sang kicked off my taste buds and I truly enjoyed myself eating it. Also, the crispness of the crackers and the plum sauce is sweet, just right to be a fantastic dressing. Not to mention, fresh raw salmon slice with a little bit of buttery from its fat plays an essential role in a whole. Better yet, it's all about naturally-colourful presentation in front of the diners.

Next, what about soup to warm your stomach?

Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Crab Meat and Dried Scallops

Nothing big for a shoutout for this. Personally, the broth is slightly diluted for my preference. I suppose it's due to the frequency of scooping or stirring . Just my two-cents, I'd always be indulged over a rather thicker texture of the broth.

Not to forget, it's the turn for some protein intake.

Steamed Whole Chicken with Dried Oyster and Sea Moss in aluminium foil

The broth is exactly my kind of favourite texture! It is apparently thicker with little flavoursome of Chinese herb. Chicken breast would be a perfect one for diners with diet-conscious. Did I forget to mention that it is kampung chicken? In fact, the meat is more succulent and contains less fats as compared to farm chicken.

And you know festive season is always a great excuse to savour some high cholesterol food.

Fried Shell-less Prawn in Milk Curry Sauce

Despite the shell-less servings, the mild milky curry sauce managed to unleash in molar as the prawn is marinated overnight. Not too spicy though, suitable even for children.

Next, vege lovers' favourite.

Braised Sea Cucumber and Sea Asparagus with Broccoli
*Personal Favourite

A big thumb up for this fantastic combination. Crunchiness from broccoli and also appropriate braise that lead to the softness from sea asparagus. Plus, braised sea cucumber that comes with gelatinous texture is simply mouth-watering.

The chef wouldn't want you to miss out fish dish as well.

Steamed Cod Fish in Spicy Crispy Bean
*Personal Favourite

Another favourite dish from me over its Chinese style soy sauce. Not too salty and good to go with the unstoppable dipping with the fish. Make sure you have it while it is served warm to be guaranteed with consistent softness and balanced tender of the fish as well as the fragrance from the soy sauce.

As usual, rice is served to make sure the diners to be full.

Fried Rice with Fresh Scallops and Prawn topped with Shredded Crispy Dhafa Fish

A big highlight to fried rice as it is served less oily which definitely sounds great to the diners. The scallops that imported from Hokkaido are claimed to be more tender and sweeter. The children, especially, would love to grab more on the crispy dhafa fish, guaranteed!

Last, dessert served to have the diners leave with satisfaction.

Double Boiled Sea Coconut with Fresh Ginseng, served with Sesame Sweet Potato Bun
*Personal Favourite

A warm dessert is just right to end the dinner over the harmonic flavour of sweetness and bitterness, perfectly paired with a small bun.

Moreover, the in-house sesame sweet potato bun deserves a big shout out. I like the natural fragrance from sweet potato and the bun contains no yeast smell, too.

That's all of the eight courses from Longevity Package at G Hotel. In a whole, it was a delightful dinner to have, with the integral of diversified colour (especially Yee Sang), aromatic flavour as well as the excellent taste of the eight courses. It's truly a great place to have friends and family roost for a reunion dinner with exceptional service provided too.

All three packages (Happiness, Prosperity & Longevity) are available in both G Hotel Gurney and G Hotel Kelawai, with a minimum of three tables (of ten persons) that make up for a private function room. Valid from 15 January till 15 February 2017.

Calling out the buffet lovers! Worry no more if you are not likely to have course dinner. Here's the buffet packages from both Taste Cafe (G Hotel Gurney) and Spoon (G Hotel Kelawai), serving for brunch and dinner from Chinese New Year Eve (Dinner only) till Second Day of Chinese New Year.
